The Dark Knight Detective must peel back layers of riddles to discover the master plan of a clever serial killer.
BATMAN x RIDDLER: Black Gambit
(fan film)
Director: Nate Lyles - Writer: Hunter Cline
Unfortunately, our project has not been fully funded on Kickstarter, and I wanted to be sure to address how much I appreciate all who donated and helped by spreading the word.
I thank you all for your support on this one and hope to see you on the next one!
Stay tuned at NateLyles.com and youtube.com/NaturNaL ^_^
Also, some of you were writing me, asking what the obstacles were or what I think the cause of our lack of backers. I can't know for certain but there could have been several obstacles:
1.) Low income to invest money into marketing. Some social media marketing was done such as financially "boosting ads". As well as promo through our teamster's podcast. Plus,
2.) I'm basically a "one-man" marketing team with no celebrity under my belt, so my reach is only but so far. Though & still, Hunter and I promoted this project in clubs and groups associated with comic books, movies, and geek fandom, etc but...
3.) My project was asking for contributions VS investments where donors can stand to profit or make their money back. (Although the perks though CAN be worth the donations to SOME.)
4.) This may not be the most popular platform for a non-profit, fan film, movie production (with this budget).
5.) To be honest, maybe our project isn't interesting enough to warrant being fully funded on this platform (right now).
Overall, NO blame is being placed on anyone/anything as I accept the outcome, having done all of what I could at this time. With prior understanding that going this route was a long shot I had to take the chance. Another learning experience under the belt. Moving forward.
See you all on the next adventure!

CAMPAIGN TO MAKE THIS MOVIE!
I have been looking forward to bringing my favorite comic book character to life in my visual image for quite some time. Earlier in my movie making career I was a bit hesitant because I didn't want to do a bad job and misrepresent Batman. That's how much respect I put on the character, and my work in general. After over a decade in video/movie making I have learned so much in this field and have met so many great people, to the point that now is the time.
The detective side of Batman is a primary part of what I love and every time he went up against The Riddler was a good time matching wits! With an admiration for Heist movies where the crews are 10 steps ahead of the law and tangled up in an intellectual battle of wits, you can just imagine my excitement when The Riddler was announced as the villain in a new up and coming movie entitled, "The Batman" [directed by: Matt Reeves]. Yet, in the same breath my slight dismay.
"Batman x Riddler: Black Gambit" was to premiere at the last L.A. Comic-Con, but I decided on a Constantine fan-film instead, avoiding any comparisons our fan-film might have to "The Batman", a movie that would be released too close to ours. Although the writer, Hunter Cline and I conceived the idea for a Batman versus Riddler story before we knew who the main villain of the Matt Reeves movie would be, and Hunter wrote the first draft before the movie came out, we still couldn't take that chance.
Possibly a blessing in disguise, as our "Constantine: Black Court" fan-film not only did great with the L.A. Comic-Con audience, it also gained us many more lessons & skills on set and in post-production. Tools that we will utilize in "Batman x Riddler: Black Gambit" to make it one of the best live action Dark Knight Detective stories ever.
It starts with the script yet, now needs your assistance to continue the vision. For the reasons stated in the "Risks and Challenges" section below*, we cannot make a profit from fan-films and thus reach out to supporters like you to help make them. We take the job very serious (and still have fun) and have always completed what we start. As we are SO appreciative when any of you are able and willing to contribute to our projects, we dedicate decisive time to creating the best "Rewards" possible.
Almost a decade creating fan-films, the characters in our library of movies include Batman Beyond, Static Shock, Ironheart, Constantine, and more. I look forward to working with you all to make the next one happen. To finally bring to life my favorite comic book character of all time, Batman.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

CHALLENGES:
1.) Funding
Funding tends to be the biggest challenge of non profit fan film making.
Much of the pre-production is worked out before the crowd funding commences so once that financial hurdle is hopped, we can dive right into production. Especially, with a winter deadline for an LA Comic-Con premiere (December 2023).
2.) Scheduling
Another challenge is the scheduling, which is manageable with this many months in advance for our December 2023 deadline. Our production only needs six non consecutive days of shooting and the cast/crew are excited to work on this project! Also, post production is easy to schedule as each department will have their individual deadlines.
Post-Pro Departments:
a.)Sound/Audio FX
b.)Music
c.)Editing, Video Effects

RISKS:
1.) LA Comic-Con
For the past 3 years our fan films have had a premiere slot at L.A. Comic Con and we have made a name for drawing a crowd there for the show.
Also our Producer/Director is on first name basis with ne of the event coordinators of LA Comic-Con, so this gives us peace of mind that we can gain a slot at the con to premiere, "Batman/Riddler: Black Gambit". Any delays the the con may have on it's own is our only concern, not so much getting into it.
2.) Intellectual Property
The characters of Batman and The Riddler are the intellectual property of DC Comics Warner Communications LLC.
*Fan films use copyrighted material to pay homage to the original, and under the unwritten rules of this practice, they are not to be sold and no profit is to be made from them. They are not supposed to be in competition with the original film or show, and they are not to be seen as a substitute for the original work.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-Who's working on it?
I pitched an idea to my former roommate and animation writer, Hunter Cline, on writing a Batman short film that highlighted his detective skills. That I'd always love The Riddler's puzzles and how he would be a formidable foe. Hunter was in agreement and pulled inspiration from the 2004 Batman cartoon, titled: "The Batman". With an affinity for puzzles himself it didn't take Hunter long to get me a first draft. I loved it.
We wanted to produce this one last year, but once Matt Reeves' Batman movie came out with Riddler as their main antagonist, I thought we'd wait to give some space between the two Batman x Riddler works, to avoid comparison.
And now here we are, aiming to produce another one for premiere at LA Comic-Con!
-What's Kickstarter?
Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform that provide contributors who wish to help fund a project a safe place to do so. It's one of the more popular ones. I decided to go with Kickstarter because of its all or nothing nature. If the full amount required for this fan film isn't raised by the set deadline then all contributions go back to the contributors.
-Why use Kickstarter?
This way the pressure is on. Not only do we know we have to push for it that much harder, but you, the contributors know just how serious we are taking this. This being the minimum amount needed to make this movie while maintaining quality that everyone will be proud to put their name on.
-How else can we help?
If you are unable to contribute at this time please, PLEASE help us by sharing the link to our Kickstarter and telling anybody you know about "BATMAN X RIDDLER: Black Gambit".
